This volume is number 4 in the series of Virology Monographs issued by this well-known and enterprising publishing house. As implied by the title and explicitly stated in the brief preface, it deals almost, but not quite entirely, with the viruses and their properties; it is intended primarily for virologists. Clinical, pathological and epidemiological aspects are discussed only as they relate to properties of the viruses. Its appeal to clinicians or clinical investigators is likely to be limited to those whose laboratory interests are focused on, or impinge on the biology of viruses.
For the microbiologist, particularly anyone working with influenza or related viruses, this will serve as a vade mecum. For the scientifically oriented physician with a background in microbiology and virology, it is easily comprehensible and even makes interesting reading.
As a reference book it has some very appealing features. It is highly organized with 33 chapters;
