In this very complete and readable volume, Muehrcke has brought together the results of his wide experience in clinical nephrology and his understanding of pathology. The book is divided into five chapters: introduction, intrinsic renal disease, clinical features of acute oliguric renal failure, the etiology and pathogenesis of "acute tubular necrosis," and finally, the management of patients with acute oliguric renal failure. Further, Muehrcke has included a reference list of 1,155 well-chosen articles, together with an author and subject index, all of which make the book valuable for the physician.
There are numerous excellent photomicrographs and roentgenographs as well as line drawings and charts of case histories used to illustrate the clinical course of typical patients. The technique of correlative pathology and detailed case reports is used throughout the book. The chapter on etiology and pathogenesis of "Acute Tubular Necrosis" is unusually complete.
