Kelsey and Beard of Houston, along with their collaborators, have produced a current text outstanding in its usefulness in the diagnosis and management of arterial and venous insufficiency. The chapter on coagulation mechanism and classification of blood-clotting factors is superb and will enable the practitioner to deal more rationally with many of the enigmas of thromboembolic disease. Organ systems involved in vascular disease are discussed separately. The authors have outlined the clinical picture presented by vascular insufficiency of each organ system, including the heart, lungs, brain, kidneys, digestive organs, and the extremities. Following the presentation of diagnostic techniques employed in their identification, modalities of medical therapy and surgical techniques applicable to each are indicated. Emphasis is placed on incorporating newer basic knowledge in understanding and treating the individual patient.
