It is commonly agreed that medical knowledge about diseases of the lungs is rather advanced in England. This book gives further evidence of that observation. The authors offer a remarkably complete coverage of diseases of the lungs ranging from the age-old problems to challenges that surround lung transplantation. Probably the most remarkable aspect of the work is that it represents the effort of two men in a time when most such compendia are usually the product of many authors. This book has much less duplication and ambiguity than multiple-authored texts.
It will serve the general physician and internist extremely well, while, at the same time, it will provide a source of up-to-date information for the chest specialist.
A separate section on diagnostic techniques in pulmonary diseases is particularly valuable for the nonchest physician. About the only technique not mentioned is the taking of films with a slight degree of obliquity
