Antibotics in Clinical Practice, by Hillas Smith, was first published in Great Britain in 1969, and this same edition is now distributed in North America. The author emphasizes in the preface that the majority of books dealing with antibiotics give little emphasis to the clinical aspects of their use. The present book is meant to be primarily clinical. It has been written mainly for physicians practicing inside or outside the hospital and for senior students. It is not intended for microbiologists, nor for specialists in the antibiotic field. Due to the solitary authorship of the book there is uniformity of style and approach to the various problems, but there is also a disparity between the quality of the various chapters. The author states that special attention has been accorded septicemia endocarditis, chemoprophylaxis, the difficulties encountered in antibiotic control of patients with liver and kidney disorders, and patients with altered immunity
