To the Editor.

—I read with interest the article entitled "Mortality and Coronary Heart Disease Among Men Studied for 23 Years," by Ancel Keys et al in August 1971 issuelon of the Archives of Internal Medicine.¹

Unfortunately, the authors failed to cite prior and original published research from this laboratory.^2-7 Keys et al assert that "the most significant single variable for coronary disease predilection proved to be the rise of diastolic blood pressure in the cold-pressor test." Keys continues "one of the major surprises in the present analysis was the discovery of the value of information from the cold-pressor test." Since the cold-pressor test was dismissed "... as being unreliable in predicting hypertension... interest in the test evaporated, but no one looked at the question of what other signifiance the cold-pressor test might have." This is a misstatement.
