This monograph provides a brief and practical guide to forensic medicine as practiced in England. Forensic medicine is concerned with the study of unexplained deaths, scientific criminal investigations, coroner's cases, and toxicology. The language of this subspecialty is defined simply throughout the volume. The simplicity enables medical students, lawyers, police officers, and even crime writers to read this text with ease. Each chapter contains illustrations and colorful paragraphs that vividly reenact many unusual cases from the author's experiences.
The only criticism I have of this text is that in providing an overview of forensic medicine, there are no references provided for me to pursue any one topic in depth. I found this volume fascinating and now if I am ever confronted with a mysterious death I will behave, hopefully, more like the skillful Sherlock Holmes and less like the bumbling Dr Watson.
