Dr Alfred Soffer has had a distinguished career as a physician, editor, and medical society executive. He is well-known in the fields of cardiology and pulmonary disease from his leadership as executive director of the American College of Chest Physicians and as editor of the journal Chest.

He is, of course, no stranger to AMA scientific publications, for, prior to assuming the directorship of the College of Chest Physicians, he was a senior editor of The Journal of the American Medical Association.
