This atlas is a welcome edition to the literature on visual interpretation and the techniques of gastrointestinal diagnosis. It is of exceptional quality, both in content and production, and is profusely illustrated with color photographs of endoscopic, light microscopical, electron microscopical, and dissecting microscopical views that represent clearly the normal anatomy and pathologic features of intestinal diseases. For many conditions, there are side-by-side endoscopic photographs in color and histologic sections indicating the corresponding microscopical pathologic condition.

The text opens with a section on the endoscopic and photographic methods used to accumulate the photographic material included in this color atlas. This portion of the text is brief but is well referenced, so that the student is provided with ample sources to review for further details. The endoscopic pathologic features of the small intestine and colon, both from intraluminal and extramural aspects, are presented beautifully and accurately in the color plates. Most . . .
