Estradiol Levels in Myocardial Infarction

To the Editor.

—We would like to add our experience of the measurement of estradiol levels in ischemic heart disease to that of Luria and colleagues that was recently published in the ARCHIVES (1982;142:42-44).

Significantly raised plasma estradiol levels in young survivors of myocardial infarction (MI) were previously reported from our departments.1 This report was a preliminary communication from a study of the circannual variation in plasma levels of this hormone that reported the results from the initial collection of blood samples in March 1978.

—The patient and control group have been described previously1; briefly, the patient group consisted of 35 men between the ages of 24 to 48 years who had suffered an MI between September 1975 and February 1978; age-matched control subjects were drawn from the police, the fire department, or an ambulance service.
