Tennant's data seem to duplicate our findings related to the prevalence of hepatitis C virus in patients who are injecting drug users.¹ He also found hepatitis C to have an impact on serum concentrations of aminotransferases in about half of his patients. Importantly, this makes our findings generalizable to other geographic areas, as our study was in Baltimore, Md, and Tennant's data are from California. The fact that the findings are generalizable to the east and west coasts is disheartening, as this provides further evidence that hepatitis C in patients with chemical dependence is a major public health problem in the United States. . . .
