Emanuel's¹ review article on euthanasia presents the results of six studies of physician attitudes and practices regarding euthanasia. In New York, the Committee on Bioethical Issues of the Medical Society of the State of New York randomly surveyed 500 internists and 500 surgeons about their attitudes toward euthanasia and its possible legalization. Fifty-four percent of the 1000 physicians responded.
