There is a substantial error in the otherwise excellent review article by Messerli et al.1 In the "Metabolic Effects" section, it is stated that "losartan was reported to decrease insulin sensitivity"; a few lines below, it says, "Since the decrease in glucose disposal rates...." The reference cited2 clearly states that losartan improves insulin sensitivity. Moan et al2 found that glucose disposal rate increased by 27% in patients with essential hypertension when compared with non-hypertensive controls.
