This second edition of Sternberg's brief manual is one of a number of similar works by members of the faculty of the University of Vienna. A little more than one-half is devoted to the general subject and the remainder to a brief account of separate varieties of tumors.

Both portions are complete, well written and carefully epitomized to handbook proportions. The work is so modern that the recent and somewhat sensational work of Gye has a judicial and judicious review. The work of a few American investigators receives creditable mention. Omissions of any reference to other American work, that by Mallory on dural fibromas, for example, is in thorough accord with the general failure of European writers to consider American research; this neglect, however, is not so marked as in former years. The monograph on melanomas by the English pathologist Dawson is not mentioned.
