In a previous communication¹ it was demonstrated that liver extract had a marked influence in ameliorating the signs and symptoms of pernicious anemia of the fowl. The present paper deals with the same subject on a quantitative basis.

As already discussed,¹ a disease complex, analogous in all important respects to pernicious anemia in human beings, can be separated from the pernicious anemia-leukemia syndrome of Ellermann² as it occurs in fowls. Moreover, it can no longer be doubted that, in fowls, the leukanemic or aleukemic leukotic cases, that is, cases with symptoms and signs of pernicious anemia but with myelocytic proliferations in various organs, especially in the liver, belong essentially to the pernicious anemia group and not to the leukotic one. Pernicious anemia, therefore, as it occurs in the fowl, is quite a distinct and separate disease in every respect, especially as regards etiology, from leukemia or leukosis. There . . .
