It is my endeavor to present the clinical, bacteriologic and pathologic findings as well as the daily progress in a case of subacute bacterial endocarditis due to Staphylococcus albus, with a view toward the further study of the disease caused by this group of bacteria.

The clinical and bacteriologic manifestations of subacute bacterial endocarditis have been carefully studied and described by a large number of clinicians, both in this country and abroad. In a study of 5 cases, Schottmüller¹ found Streptococcus mitior (viridans) as the cause of this type of bacterial endocarditis. In a study of 97 cases of subacute bacterial endocarditis, Horder² found 62 due to streptococcus, 19 due to Staphylococcus aureus, 5 to influenza bacilli, 3 to gonococcus and 1 to streptococcus and staphylococcus.
