This is the first American edition of a book which so far has appeared in three English editions and one Dutch. It made its first appearance in 1923, and was published by Heinemann.
The American edition is essentially the same as the ones previously published in England, and these already have been reviewed competently. The Journal of the American Medical Association (82:153 [Jan. 12] 1924) has described the first English edition as a practical work on the subject it discusses, written in plain, understandable language, and with good judgment as to what constitutes general medical opinion. This is a fair characterization of the current American edition. One might raise the question as to the necessity for a book of this character and agree with the Medical Journal of Australia that there is a limited sphere of usefulness for it; or one might reflect with the British Medical Journal as to
