This is a practical little treatise on acidosis and alkalosis, well written and therefore readable. It appears to have been published for medical students or for clinicians who might wish to brush up on so complex a subject as the reaction of the blood. Accordingly, it is simple in terminology and construction. Such matters as a definition of the terms which are employed, the carbon dioxide dissociation curve and the determination of the state of the acid-base equilibrium are competently handled. Clinical disorders such as diabetes, nephritis, cyclic vomiting and tetany are discussed from the point of view of their pathologic physiology. There is a practical chapter on the ketogenic diet with an appendix giving the ketogenic-antiketogenic values of foods, and methods of preparing molar and normal solutions.
