The second edition of this book has been completely revised, and nearly two hundred pages have been added to the text, including new chapters on oral manifestations of extra-oral injections, several chapters on periapical infection and a chapter on oral hygiene. The sequence of chapters has been changed, and some material has been deleted.

The book is divided into three parts. The first, dealing with bacteriology, endeavors to acquaint the reader with the fundamental information on the morphology, physiology and ecology of bacteria. The second part deals with infection and oral hygiene, while the third deals with infection of the oral cavity. The author has made considerable use of current literature; there are references at the bottom of almost every page. The illustrations are, for the most part, from the work of others; these are carefully selected and are pertinent to the subject matter. One or two, such as figure . . .
