From January to June 1934, the Quarterly Cumulative Index lists under the heading "Anaphylaxis and Allergy" 206 titles. In 1933 there were 166 titles whereas five years before, in 1928, there were only 126 titles. Interest in the subject is growing rapidly in accordance with the discovery that the peculiar reaction of the host which is called "allergy" applies not only to hay fever, asthma and eczema but to a good many of the infectious diseases. The study of the host and the responses of the host to injuries and insults of wide variety is attracting the attention which it deserves. The subject is important. Even at this time, its scope is so large and the literature so voluminous that no review of this kind can possibly refer to each of the articles published.
