The determination of the urea ratio, urea in 1 hour's urine blood' of Addis urea in 100 cc. of blood and his collaborators1 has proved to be a satisfactory method for the estimation of the percentage of functioning renal tissue. It was found to be the best functional test to give an approximation of the quantitative and structural changes caused by unilateral nephrectomy2 and by uranium "nephritis."3 The magnitude of the Addis ratio was found to be directly related to the size of the kidneys in intact rats,4 in rabbits5 and in human beings.6 A relationship between the urea ratio and the surface area in the dog7 and in man6 has been demonstrated. It has also been shown that a relationship exists between the area of the body surface and kidney weight in the rat,8 the rabbit,5 the dog9 and man.6 It would appear that renal function,
