Hill and Ellman present twenty chapters based on a series of lectures delivered by fifteen authorities on the study and treatment of arthritis. These lectures were given during the winter and spring of the year 1936 to 1937 as a postgraduate course. This book has brought together good, concise presentation of what the authors thought about their respective subjects.

The social and economic aspects are reviewed, with short comments on the way the members of the medical profession and government officials in several countries are organized to treat patients with arthritis. A well presented discussion of the classifications and clinical types of arthritis helps to orient the reader. The chapters on acute rheumatic diseases of childhood and on rheumatism of the spine are particularly well presented. They are rather opinionated but contain practical and helpful suggestions.
