The recent use of the poison of the honey bee in the treatment of patients suffering from the various forms of arthritis or neuralgia and the reports of the striking benefit resulting from such treatment have stimulated an interest in this therapeutic measure. Previous publications on the subject have been disappointing because of the lack of sufficient detail in the description of cases and the absence of a critical analysis of the results obtained. One picks up the present monograph with the hope that an adequate appraisal of bee venom as a remedy has at last been made. One finds, however, that the author has devoted twenty-two of the thirty-five pages that are directly on the subject to a discussion of the history of the use of bee venom in medicine, a discussion of animal venoms in general, a recounting of the physiologic action of the venom and a consideration . . .
