From the beginning of history to 1938, the author outlines by brief statements the development of knowledge of tuberculosis. Under the year 1885, for example, among several items, one reads that "Edward Livingston Trudeau (1847-1915) founds Adirondack Cottage Sanatorium at Saranac Lake, New York. Employs bed rest in the presence of symptoms. He becomes patron saint of the American consumptive." In sixty-three pages of this sort of treatment a vast amount of ground is covered, and every physician should find this compendium indispensable.
