The Merck Index has appeared in repeated editions since 1889 and hardly needs any introduction to the medical profession. It is a one volume encyclopedia constituting an extensive and almost complete reference work for various drugs and chemical compounds used in the medical sciences. The new edition is similar in format to the previous editions, but enlarged to include all of the new drugs and chemicals which have come into use since the last edition, in 1930.
