It is remarkable that so much new material can be incorporated in a revision of a book on a subject, diabetes, on which in the minds of many people information has been more or less static since the developments following the discovery of insulin. Joslin's standard book on diabetes in its present seventh edition has 756 pages of text, as compared with the sixth edition with 686 pages, which was published in 1937. There are new statistics, new facts and even new cooperating authors. The different chapters are revised and rewritten not only by the three, Root, White and Marble, who cooperated with Joslin in the sixth edition, but by others who appear as co-authors of chapters, including McDaniel, Pincus and Baldwin. Outstanding in the new material is the recognition by Joslin of the work of Best and Lukens on the relation of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
