To the Editor:

—My attention has been called to an article by Weinberger and Grant entitled "Precocious Puberty and Tumors of the Hypothalamus," in the April issue of the ARCHIVES, page 762.

In this article the authors have completely misinterpreted and misstated the work by Dr. Martin and me on the experimental removal of the pineal gland in young mammals, a report of which appeared in the January 1940 issue of the Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry, page 23, and to which they refer.

Weinberger and Grant state (page 763): "Davis and Martin performed pinealectomies on rats and cats. In the former they saw no evidence of sexual precocity but claimed that they did so in cats. This opinion was based on observations on only 3 cats out of the 14 that survived the operation." As a matter of fact, we stated in our article that our series of cats . . .
