The present edition differs from the last one in several respects. First, it has a new title, being called "Textbook of Pediatrics" instead of "The Diseases of Infants and Children." Second, the authors have procured for the first time the assistance of numerous collaborators and authorities, both in and out of the field of pediatrics, who have contributed to, criticized or advised concerning the material used in this edition. Third, the bibliography, so prominent in the last edition, has been entirely eliminated from the present one. In this edition, much more than in the previous ones, the authors have emphasized the characteristics of good physical and mental health, prevention of disease and, especially, growth and development. Because much of the theoretic knowledge of disease has been omitted, and chiefly practical facts have been included, the book is easy to read and easy to understand.
