To the Editor:

—Apparently H. Gray's article on "Arachnodactyly (Spider Fingers)" in the April issue of ARCHIVES OF INTERNAL MEDICINE (75:215, 1945) can easily be interpreted as a calling to task of the specialties, specifically of ophthalmology. As an ophthalmologist, I should like to attempt some small defense in an endeavor to disintegrate any unwritten misconceptions concerning the specialist's being weaned away from Mother medicine. Unwittingly, this article, appearing in a journal of internal medicine, shows just this shortcoming, for the author has overemphasized linear measurements at the expense of medicine, surgery, orthopedics, genetics and ophthalmology, and has attempted to replace the investigator's eyes with dimensional analyses.
