CANICOLA fever, or leptospirosis canicola, is a rare disease. Although there is an abundance of literature on Weil's disease, or leptospirosis icterohaemorrhagica, there is a paucity of written material on canicola fever. Consequently it was felt advisable to present this case which was seen by the author and to review the literature on the subject.
REPORT OF A CASE
A 44 year old captain of Italian extraction entered Fitzsimons General Hospital on Oct. 1, 1945, giving a history of having suffered a sudden onset of sharp pain across the bridge of his nose with associated nasal congestion during the evening six days previous to admission. Within an hour after the onset of his difficulties the patient had a headache and pains in his hips. He also felt feverish and was sweaty.
