This book, the reviewer believes, represents a noteworthy attempt to relate disorders of the skin to more general disturbances of nutrition and metabolism. While much of the material will be found in other dermatologic treatises, the important thing here is that the author tries to get away from the old "botanical" classifications of dermatoses, made by inspection alone, and to penetrate literally as well as figuratively beneath the skin. To make this clear one may mention some of the chapter headings: "Influence of Diet on Metabolism of the Skin," "Allergy as a Cause of Skin Diseases" and "Dermatoses Due to Diseases of Liver and Pancreas," The book is well printed and illustrated, and there are numerous references.
