As a whole, this monograph is good. The authors attempted to cover the field of vascular diseases with completeness, but like all single volume monographs on such an extensive subject, the book fails to be complete. The approach to the problem is, as would be expected, a good version of the approach to the various problems at the Mayo Clinic. For that reason, many differences of opinion which originate elsewhere are not completely considered. The authors have failed to assay adequately the many therapeutic, diagnostic and mechanistic approaches to and opinions of the vascular diseases for the physician who is little acquainted with the problems. In their attempt to make the monograph encyclopedic, they present many ideas without fully evaluating or summarizing the problems for the physicians and students who are unable to do so.
