The appearance of the second edition of this book two years after that of the first is rather definite proof that there was need of such a textbook and that there is a real necessity to record promptly the newer studies of antibiotics, a subject which is going ahead by leaps and bounds. Because of all the new material that has appeared in the last two years, kolmer has been obliged to rewrite completely the second edition. He has also incorporated a considerable number of additional illustrations. Even with the many changes that have been necessary to bring the new edition up to date at the time of publication, it is almost impossible really to keep a book au courant with the studies that are appearing almost daily in the field of antibiotic therapy.
