Studies of Chronic Pyelonephritis.

This monograph was prepared as a doctor's thesis at the University of Copenhagen. It has been translated into English and gives a thorough and detailed account of chronic pyelonephritis.

The discussion of the history of the disease and its pathology is well written. The analyses of the age and sex distribution of pyelonephritis and of its frequency and its clinical course are adequate. Chief emphasis is placed on the author's studies on renal function, in which he describes his observations of glomerular and tubular function in a series of cases. He has used urea clearance and inulin and iodopyracet injection (diodrast®) in a variety of ways, attempting to prove what modern tests for renal function can demonstrate in the study of the pyelonephritic kidney. He gives a good summary of the literature.
