GENERAL NEWS

National Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases.

—A National Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases will be held January 18 through January 20, 1950, at the Mayflower Hotel, Washington, D. C. The conference is sponsored jointly by the National Heart Institute and the American Heart Association. Dr. C. J. Van Slyke, Director of the Institute, and Dr. H. M. Marvin, president of the American Heart Association, are its co-chairmen.

Dr. Paul D. White, former president of the American Heart Association and now Chief Medical Advisor to the National Heart Institute of the United States Public Health Service, has been named chairman of the steering committee. Dr. Van Slyke and Dr. Marvin have stated that the meeting will be "the first national conference to bring together physicians, scientists, community service leaders and members of allied professions to formulate a program to combat and control the heart diseases."
