This small monograph tells its story in a frank and engaging manner. The text is short and simply written, so that it is readily understandable. The bulk of the book is made up of diagrams and drawings—many of which are in color—so that any reader gets an attractive view of current hematology as seen through the eyes of a modern British hematologist.

As the preface states, the volume attempts to provide an authoritative, accurately illustrated account of the bone marrow in health and disease for the guidance of physicians and pathologists. It is modeled in a small-sized way on the atlas of the blood diseases of children that Blackfan and Diamond prepared in 1944.
