The appearance of a second edition of this book in a relatively short time after the first edition was published indicates that the book has been exceptionally well received. The favorable reception is well merited.

The text of this edition has few changes as compared to the text of the first edition. In fact, except for the addition of two plates in the beginning of the book and two or three new figures, the two editions are identical. The newer figures that are added bring the text more up to date. Several of the chapters could be enlarged by the addition of neurophysiologic and neuropathologic information that has appeared in the current literature. However, the contents of this book are for the student, and, therefore, added controversial data might lead to the confusion of such a reader.
