Seventy-Fifth Anniversary of the Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift.

—With the Jan. 6, 1950 issue, the Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift embarked on its seventy-fifth year of publication. The periodical was started by Paul Börner in 1875. This was the period of great discoveries in the field of applied natural sciences. Pasteur had demonstrated the role of the micro-organisms in decomposition and fermentation. Koch, an unknown country practitioner, was able to obtain a thousand-fold magnification of tissue with his new microscope. With the newly discovered aniline dyes he was able to demonstrate in the blood of a sick sheep the bacillus of anthrax. The doctrine of the infectious diseases was thus established.
