GENERAL NEWS

Commercial Solvents Award Established for Research in Antibiotics.

— The Commercial Solvents Corporation, New York, and the Society of American Bacteriologists announce the establishment of an annual award for outstanding research in the field of antibiotics. The award, $1,000 and a gold medal, will be given to a person or a group of persons working in the Western Hemisphere who contribute to the better understanding of antibiotics. In selecting the winner of the award, particular attention will be given to the basic nature of the research on which the award is made and its contribution to fundamental knowledge about antibiotics.

The Commercial Solvents Award will be administered by the Society of American Bacteriologists, and the recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the president of the Society.
