With few exceptions, one looks in vain for any residue of Musser in the new Musser-Wohl "Internal Medicine"; most of the sections have been rewritten by new authors, but it may be said that Dr. Wohl has edited an excellent book in his own right.

Are more textbooks of medicine needed? That is a real question and one which the reviewer merely raises but does not attempt to answer. Certain it is that one man can no longer cover the whole field effectively, and to the present work 80 authors have contributed. It remains, then, for one editor to pit his team against the other teams; there will obviously be variations in the caliber of different contributors. The present Musser-Wohl edition seems to the reviewer a highly creditable performance. In many parts it is stronger than other popular texts; in some it is weaker. That could not be avoided. In . . .
