Series I of the Williams and Wilkins Monographs in Medicine should prove a welcome addition to the library of every internist. In this era of multiplicity of medical periodicals, even within a given specialty, it is gratifying to have at one's finger tips comprehensive coverage of several subjects of current interest rather than spotty reports that present a single point of view. The monographs of this series for the most part contain all one needs to know for a fair grasp of the problems under consideration, yet are not so long as to be tedious. The bibliographies are extensive and, because of the character of the authors, contain the important selections from the fields of knowledge which they represent.
