Dr. Weisberg presents this compact volume on fluid and electrolyte balance in the form implied by its subtitle: "Normal and Pathologic Physiology as a Basis for Therapy." The author has written with a clinical point of view. The introductory chapters are devoted to a concise and logical explanation of the normal physiology of body fluids and electrolytes—fluid compartments, endocrine influences, and renal mechanisms. There is a good discussion of acid-base balance. The second section of the book covers the pathologic derangements of the body chemistry. The third section is a discussion of parenteral fluid therapy, in which there is a thorough explanation of types of electrolyte repair solutions and their effective use in states of imbalance. The value of the book is enhanced by the helpful explanatory tables and figures and by the list of 398 references. The book is recommended as a concise and practical review of the subject. . . .
