Very little can be said of this volume except praise. Consisting of 18 chapters written by 84 authorities and devoted to the treatment of specific diseases, with one chapter in which symptoms are made the basis of treatment, the field of internal medicine is well covered. An appendix of 22 pages relating to useful diets would certainly be regarded as inadequate for this type of therapy by many dietetic enthusiasts, but to the reviewer it appeared that all really useful diets were adequately represented. Other special methods of treatment, for example physical medicine, are represented only by incorporation into the body of the discussion of the specific diseases. This appears adequate for a book of this type. The discussion on psychosomatic problems is an especially good down-to-earth exposition, free from the usual pseudoscientific camouflage.
