This excellent volume is a sign of the times, indicating the almost frantic efforts which are being made to review the vast literature and to help doctors keep up to date. We find here, in some 350 pages, excellent review articles on a variety of subjects, written by authorities such as Paul White, Charles Mayo, Frederick Stare, Perrin Long, and others. Obviously within these confines not too much can be said in detail, but that may be a virtue, as the writers have for the most part confined themselves to fairly fundamental considerations of general interest. This would certainly be a useful volume for any doctor to have on his desk as well as for pleasant reading. Each chapter is followed by a fairly comprehensive bibliography.
