This monograph is the fourth edition of a thorough treatise on treatment of "rheumatological diseases" by means of anesthesia with procaine (Novocaine) infiltration.

It is divided into two parts. The first part gives (1) a short historical review of local anesthetic therapy and (2) a discussion of all known pathophysiological mechanisms effective in local procaine therapy, wherein the influence and the ideas of Speransky and Ricker are obvious.

The second part is based on the author's own experience with over 4000 well-recorded and followed-up cases and over 37,000 procaine infiltrations. Here, he discusses the technique, dosage, and number of treatments required for optimal results. The few schematic illustrations are helpful in explaining the text.

It should be noted that the term rheumatological diseases is used in a rather loose fashion, comprising such entities as rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative arthritis, tuberculosis of joints and vertebra, osteoporosis, gout, lipomatosis dolorosa, and others. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
