CHRONIC PULMONIC AND TRICUSPID STENOSIS WITH A CANCEROUS ARGENTAFFINOMA

RECENTLY published reports have described a predominantly right-sided valvular heart lesion associated with cancerous argentaffinoma of the bowel.* These patients had some skin disorder such as intermittent cutaneous vasomotor flushing and/or a peculiar type of mottled cyanosis. There is a tendency to consider this combination of lesions as a new clinical syndrome. Some of the skin manifestations can be explained by a hormonal secretion, 5-hydroxytryptamine, of the argentaffinoma tumor.10 The relationship between the tumor and the heart lesion is obscure. More clinical studies are needed to evaluate this rather rare combination of diseases. This paper reports an additional case which has been extensively studied and includes references not mentioned in previous reports.
