The "gospel" according to Topley and Wilson has returned—refreshed, renewed, and sparkling. All bacteriologists and virologists should have a copy of "Topley and Wilson," and most do. All that has been wrong with it recently has been the need for a new edition. Here it is, and it is vastly impressive. To suggest that two men could survey such a great field of knowledge and "grasp at the fragment of truth" in the recent prodigious flow of scientific papers sounds almost impossible. This new edition proves this supposition wrong. It is divided into four parts: general bacteriology, systematic bacteriology, infection and resistance, and the application of bacteriology to medicine and hygiene. It is interesting to see that the sections which have been expanded from the previous edition are those which deal with antigenantibody reactions, variation and inheritance in bacteria, bacteriophage, Brucella, anaphylaxis hypersensitiveness and allergy, host factors, and generalized and . . .
