Dr. Soffer presents the endocrine diseases in a scholarly fashion. The points of differential diagnosis are nicely tabulated, and the prognosis and methods of treatment are given. For those who wish to broaden their understanding there are the sections on histology and embryology of the glands as well as the early historical accounts of the diseases. Research-minded physicians will appreciate the completeness of the bibliography, which includes many papers published during 1955.
The pancreas and diabetes have been omitted from this edition "for two reasons: 1. an effort to maintain the volume within a reasonable length; and 2. the feeling that the field merits separate treatment because of its complexity and detail."
Dr. Sohval's section on the gonads and reproductive physiology maintains the high standards of complete presentation of the clinical syndromes and their management as well as their physiological background and experimental correlations.
