Introduction

In this journal Nadler and Wolfer,¹ in 1929, first recorded the occurrence of hypoglycemia in a patient with a primary carcinoma of the liver. Since then the association has been reported on six further occasions.* Of these seven reports four have emanated from the United States of America and one each from Belgium, Germany, and Sweden, countries in which the tumor is relatively uncommon. As far as we are aware, hitherto there has been no report of the association from areas where the tumor is possessed of a relatively high incidence.

Two patients with primary carcinoma of the liver associated with hypoglycemia were seen in the course of consulting practice, and the findings in these patients led us to the observations which are the subject of this communication.
